WordsWorth it is Definitely ‘Worth’ it on iPod Touch Games

April 7th, 2009 at 07:59am Under Game Reviews

If you are like me and enjoy a good word game, then chances are that you are going to enjoy playing WordsWorth, one of the new iPod touch games. If you are familiar with the game Bookworm, then you are going to know what WordsWorth is. The goal is to link the hexagonal tiles together to make words and to score as high as possible.

There are a couple of things that make the game adaptable to anyone’s play style. First, you can choose what word database you want to use. Another thing that you can do is to choose the size of your grid, which ranges from 4×4 up to 7×7. The third thing that is handy is the ability to choose what the shortest length of a word is going to be. Some people might think that they should make it four, but those three letter words might just keep you alive when you are about to lose your game.

Speaking of losing the game, if you are completely stumped and don’t know what to do, shaking your device will reset your letters and give you new ones. But of course, this comes with a price. If you choose this option, you are going to get red letters that need to be used before their time is up. If you don’t use them, you lose the game.

One suggestion to keep in mind when you are playing this game – turn the music off. Even though it also turns the sound affects off, you may find that it will help you think better. Music can be distracting and can disrupt your train of thought, so you may find that it’s going to help your game not to have it on.

WordsWorth is one of those iPod touch games that people who love word games will enjoy, and it’s one of my favorites.

Go ‘Round the Text World With Textopolis and iPod Touch Games

April 2nd, 2009 at 06:27pm Under Game Reviews

For people who are fans of text iPod touch games such as Scrabble, they are going to love playing the game Textopolis which can be played both on the iPhone and the iPod touch. The goal of the game is to use the letters that are in the city’s name to make as many words as possible out of them. There’s a total of thirty cities in the game, and you have to get at least ten percent of the words to get to city in the next level. The words that are spelled have to be at least four letters long, but plurals do count.

This game is great for anyone, no matter how well they spell or their age. The reason is that there is no limit to the times that the game is started and stopped, and something that people who don’t spell well will like is that there isn’t a timer. This means you can as long as you want to find words. A feature that people often find amusing and cool is that the definitions fly through the sky when a word is correctly spelled.

The way that you keep track of how many words you have gotten for each city is by the number of stars on the game’s home screen. There are five stars for each city, with five meaning that you got all the words.

This game is a good one for beginners and experts alike. It’s good for kids to help them with their spelling and it’s challenging enough to make even the most seasoned spellers stop and think. The graphics aren’t really high tech, but that’s not really needed in this type of game. They are good enough to be enjoyable.

This is definitely a good game for everyone who enjoys a spelling challenge, and a definite choice for fans of iPod touch games.

Cool, Sweet Fun on iPod Touch Games With Scoops!

April 1st, 2009 at 03:01pm Under Game Reviews

Whether it’s a hot day in the summer or it’s a nice fall day, people love ice cream. Most people would rather have ice cream than eat vegetables, right? Well, in the game of Scoops, this is especially true.

In this delicious example of iPod touch games, you are given an ice cream cone which is empty and the goal is to catch ice cream scoops on it and avoid the vegetables. This is accomplished by tilting the device which you are using to the left and to the right, depending on what you are trying to catch. You are given three stars at the beginning of the game, and each time you catch a vegetable you lose a star. If you lose all of your stars, the game ends.

Even though the graphics are good, there isn’t a lot of game. If you make a mistake, like trying to use your finger instead of tilting, you are going to get a warning reminding you that you should tilt instead of slide. Being able to use the accelerometer is something that is very handy, but it can take some trial and error to figure out what settings work best for you.

Your score is determined by how many successful scoops you have caught in a row, whether the scoops are the same color, and whether or not the scoops have a star on them. The base worth for a scoop is fifty points and then it’s multiplied by the amount of your multiplier. A regular scoop makes the multiplier go up one point. If you have two alike scoops, one on top of another, you get two points. The scoops with the stars on them are worth one hundred points multiplied by the multiplier. If you miss a scoop, you lose a point on your multiplier and you lose ten points multiplied by the multiplier.

This isn’t a bad game. It can be fun to play and the graphics are decent, so some people might want to add it to their collection of iPod touch games.

Spot the Fun With Photo Spot on iPod Touch Games

March 30th, 2009 at 03:10pm Under Game Reviews

A lot of people remember looking at magazines where you are challenged to discover the differences between two pictures presented. They are fun to look at and now the concept has moved into the world of video games. Now there is a game which has joined the ranks of iPod touch games known as Photo Spot. This is a game that people of all ages can enjoy.

At first glance, it may look like something that is going to make you want to rip your hair out. A lot of the differences are so small that it seems to take a magnifying glass to find them. But don’t despair! There is hope for people who think that they can’t play this game and that they are never going to get off the first level.

Hints

The first good news is that you get three hints per game. That’s right, per game. This means you have to choose the times that you use them carefully. But they can help you get out of a bad spot.

Skill Levels

The second good piece of news is that you don’t have to select the hardest skill level to start out with. There are different types of pictures that the person can choose, whether they are photos or cartoon pictures. It’s a good idea to start out with the easier pictures and work your way up.

One warning, however; every time you make a wrong choice as to where the difference is your time goes down. If you make three wrong choices, the game is over. So don’t go clicking randomly because you are frustrated and want to find the differences. It’s better to take your time and look because you are going to have a better chance of success.

This game is an okay addition to your collection if iPod touch games, but it’s not one of the best.

Spread Christmas Spirit With iSanta on iPod Touch Games

March 27th, 2009 at 02:49pm Under Game Reviews

Have you ever dreamed that you were Santa Clause? Flying through the sky delivering presents to everyone? If you ever wished that you could be Santa Clause for just one day, then the game iSanta from iPod touch games is perfect for you.

What is your goal as Santa? Why, to deliver Christmas presents to everyone and everywhere around the world. You tilt your device to make the sleigh fly the way that you want it to go.

Let me just say starting out that the graphics in this game are beautiful. There are Christmas lights on the houses and the trees, and the brightly wrapped gifts that drop from Santa’s sleigh are inspirational.

On the top of the flying screen, ,you have the number of gifts that you have to deliver in order to finish the level, the name of the city that you are in, the number of presents you have left, and the number of lives you have remaining.

Unlike other iPod touch games, iSanta works very well with the tilting. His sleigh flies smoothly and quickly and it’s a perfect game that people can use their tilt feature of their iPod or iPhone.

The one bad thing that I personally don’t care for is the music. In fact, it’s so bad that I turned my sound off right away. You hear it when you first download the game and you hope that it gets better, but it just doesn’t. Trust me when I say that the music is horrible and it’s not going to improve with this version of the game.

All in all, iSanta, with the exception of the garish music, is a game that is fun and colorful to play, no matter what time of the year it is. When you have iSanta on your iPod or iPhone, it can be Christmas all year round.

Ipod Version of Frogger Keeps You Hopping on iPod Touch Games

March 26th, 2009 at 02:40pm Under Game Reviews

Many people are going to remember the game Frogger which came out years ago, after all, it was a huge hit among people of all ages. Some people enjoyed playing it and some people got frustrated with it after only playing it for a few minutes. For those who loved the game years ago, they are going to be happy with the iPod touch games version of Frogger.

Something that people who are playing Frogger on their iPhone like is the graphics. The frog is not a corny version of a frog, but rather a nicely drawn picture of a frog. Likewise, the graphics of the cars and trucks are decent. Overall, the graphics are very impressive.

As for playing the game, there are three ways that the game is able to be played. The first way that the game can be played is by tilting the iPhone. Although this seems like a good idea, it’s not easy to do and I found that it doesn’t really work that well. Another way that the game can be played is by using your finger to slide the frog along the screen. Again, this isn’t the best way to control your frog.

The best way that you can play the game on your iPhone is to tap on the screen the way that you want the frog to go. This gives you the best control of your frog.

All in all, the Frogger game is fun and a game that those who enjoy the classics when it comes to iPod touch games will enjoy.

Diamond Checker’s = A Girl’s Best Friend on iPod Touch Games

March 25th, 2009 at 03:52pm Under Game Reviews

Do you remember that game where there are countless amounts of marbles, and if you shake the board, they roll all over the place? The game is Chinese Checkers. Well, now there is a game available known as Diamond Checkers. This is basically the Chinese checkers of iPod touch games.

For those of you who have never played Chinese checkers, the goal of Diamond Checkers is simple. You want to get all of your marbles in the point of the star which is directly opposite your own point. But unlike regular checkers, you don’t remove your opponent’s pieces when you jump them. You want to set up things like a ladder to help your pieces get across. You can only move as long as you have pieces to jump, whether they are your pieces or your opponents’ pieces.

Because up to six people can play one game of Diamond Checkers, you are going to want to choose your strategy carefully. Strategy comes into play with the more people that you have playing against you.

When you play Diamond Checkers, you have the options to play only against the computer, play against other human opponents, or you can play both against the computer and other humans. If you are playing alone, start out playing just one other computer opponent. Then you want to try playing against five others. That will give you an idea of what a difference it makes.

You don’t get a lot of challenge when you are playing against the computer, so if you are looking for a real challenge, play with other humans. The graphics are basic and nothing special to look at, and they don’t have different boards to use, which would be nice.

Overall, the convenience of being able to play without having to deal with a lot of marbles makes this a good game for Chinese checkers enthusiasts to look at. For the rest of us, maybe wait and see if they do some improvements to it.

Get Bowled Over With iPod Touch Games Arcade Bowling

March 25th, 2009 at 03:40am Under Game Reviews

In almost every arcade you enter, you are going to hear the sounds of skeeball being played. You know the game – that fun game where you roll those balls up the ramp and try to get them into one of those holes for points. In fact, skeeball is one of my favorite games at a video arcade, and that is why I love Arcade Bowling, one of my favorite iPod touch games.

We all know how it is to have games for our iPod touches that are nothing like the original games, but that isn’t the case with Arcade Bowling. From the graphics to the way that the game is played, people who love skeeball are also going to love it. At the beginning of the game, you choose your mode, and then you are taken into the actual arcade.

The ball is readied by placing your finger on your iPod’s touch screen and then is rolled by flicking your finger in the direction of the holes. If you are trying to get your ball in a certain hole, make sure that your flick is aimed that way. And what is even better is that the ball can be controlled in the air by using the accelerometer. Even though its simple design makes it perfect for showcasing your device, you may find that it’s difficult to control it at first. You can slow the ball down if you tilt the iPod towards you, but you have to do it fast to make any difference.

For anyone who loves playing skeeball, this game is a must have. It’s a way to enjoy playing the game anywhere and anytime, and it’s something that you are going to be glad to have. Arcade Bowling is one of the iPod games that is fun for everyone.

Make Calls from your iPod Touch?

March 11th, 2009 at 04:34am Under iPod Touch Games

I was browsing around the net as usual looking at the latest iPod touch games and apps and I stumbled upon an article that was titled “Make Calls from your iPod Touch.” Naturally I had to click on it to see just what they were talking about. I thought that by some miracle there was some way to turn the iPod Touch into a phone…and when I checked it out it was close. There is an app called Fring which will allow a user to turn their iPod Touch into a phone and best of all its FREE! The only catch is that you have to be on wifi because it uses a VOIP connection.

For all of those who were missing the phone function on the iPod Touch this may be your solution!

Here is a video of just how to do this:

Does the new iPod touch games work on the regular iPod?

March 8th, 2009 at 10:31pm Under iPod Touch Games

The iPod touch and the iPhone have sure changed the general view of the iPod. As I mentioned in my previous post Are iPod Touch Games going to overthrow the PSP. We really need to start thinking of this device as more than just an MP3 player. It is already much…much more and I’m sure Apple is looking at the success of the games on these devises and they are planning on improving their market share in the portable gaming industry.

One of the questions I see popping up here and there is whether the iPod touch games can work on the regular iPods. While there are some games that are available for both devices most of the games that are specifically developed for the iPod touch cannot work on the regular iPod. Why is this? Well the iPhone and the iPod touch are way more advanced than the traditional iPods. Also most of the games developed for these platforms make use of the touch screen and the accelerometer which are not available on the regular iPods…yet.

I definitely see Apple implementing some features into the iPod to aide in the gaming category, however I do not think they will make it to the level of the games that can function on the iPod Touch.
